Imagine your front door had a simple, easy-to-guess code. You wouldn't feel safe, would you? But, many of us use similarly weak passwords to protect our valuable digital assets. Data breaches are on the rise, and a single compromised password can have devastating consequences. Empower yourself and take control of your online security by exploring best practices for creating and managing robust passwords.

Use the following Secure Password Checklist to ensure your passwords meet the minimum qualifications:

  • Password length (12-16 characters minimum)

  • Use alphanumeric and special characters

  • Avoid personal information or dictionary words

  • Use password managers

  • Do not reuse passwords – Use a new password for each account

  • Always change manufacturer supplied logins and passwords

  • Never use the following passwords:

    • Password

    • 123456

    • guest

    • qwerty

    • 111111

Example of a secure password: 4+hYkk$L-bd?pe*j
