Check Your Passwords

• Password length (12-16 characters minimum)

• Use alphanumeric and special characters

• Avoid personal information or dictionary words

• Use password managers

• Do not reuse passwords – Use a new password for each account

• Always change manufacturer supplied logins and passwords

• Never use the following passwords:

  • Password

  • 123456

  • guest

  • qwerty

  • 111111

This training series is based on the CAN/DGSI 104 NATIONAL STANDARD OF CANADA Baseline cyber security controls for small and medium sized organizations (typically less than 500 employees), the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security controls and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).
